Kuala
Lumpur. Daytime. I was admiring the twin peaks visible in
this here photo and for some reason dreaming about Anna
Kournikova, when who should run into me but Horngjiunn (pronounced
'Horny Jim'), webmaster of the esteemed CM
Addict. Before he could escape, I pinned him down, grabbed
my tape recorder, fixed him with a handily placed spotlight,
and demanded answers to a series of fiendish twenty questions.
How did he answer? And did he get away to update his site
before I had done with him? You'll have to read on to find
out more (by the way, does anyone agree with me that KL
looks like it was inspired by the Fritz Lang classic, Metropolis?
You're probably too young to remember, it being made in
the 1920s and all, but the resemblance is uncanny...) |
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I
am a 16-year old irritating bug. I like rock music and I play
some footy with my mates too. The only thing I really love is
making sites and writing about the scene. I also enjoy making
graphics and I was also once an Art student. I also found it
difficult to pass my English exams in school, but I did pass
them by a stroke of luck.
You mention your bad use of English a lot, but it really
isn't that poor. How have you been improving your language skills?
My
English language doesn’t seem to be improving at all. I still
make lots of spelling mistakes and tons of grammatical errors.
I am weak in my vocabulary too. I am terrible!
Why has CM Addict undergone so many changes in its short
life?
In
order to become stronger, changes need to be made. Improvements
are necessary, and content also needs to be added. If I am not
ambitious, you would not have known CM Addict because I would
be like the small sites around the scene (ahem - ed). I also
enjoy making changes to the site.
In my opinion, CM Addict has a very pretty design, one of
the loveliest on the scene. How important is good design to
a CM site, do you think?
Having
a good site design is very important. This is also one of the
most important factors to draw visitors to your site. Look at
those leading CM sites on the scene, none of them have a crappy
site design. A good site design doesn’t need to be very complicated.
A simple and neat site design with the site links placed nicely
around the site so that visitors could navigate the site easily
will be good enough.
Well,
that's me out then. How did Scene Survivor come about. It's
a great idea, and keeps everyone interested in CM Addict.
You
may find this idea interesting but others find it rather lame.
I actually started the Survivor idea before CM Addict was up.
I designed a website for my mates before and I had a section
about Survivor. It was like putting my mates as the main characters
in the story and putting some jokes in it. Every article we
would have one mate voted of the island until one was left.
Don’t understand? Forget it.
Who is your favourite football team, and why?
I
support Arsenal. It started when I was quite small and my mates
were collecting stickers of the Premiership clubs. I stole one
of the sticker books and flipped through it. I saw this goalkeeper
David Seaman and watched him on TV. He was great. From that
day onwards, I will always go with Arsenal whenever they have
a match. It has been 9yrs…
Favourite player?
Initially
it was David Seaman but during these last few years, I started
to enjoy seeing Roberto Carlos on the field. He is good, much
better than all the left-backs who exist in this world. That’s
what I think (especially after seeing Seaman's Aphex Twin look
- ed).
How
did you get into CM?
When
I got my first and only computer in 1997. I got lots of footy
games at the time and that includes Championship Manager.
Was it an instant hit, or did it take a while to grab you?
Instant
hit! I can’t stop playing the game. I even tried to install
this game in my class so that whenever I had a break, I would
be on the computer and play the game. All the computers in my
class have Championship Manager 3 installed.
Any teams you have to be?
I
shall make a quick guess and say Arsenal. I have no idea why,
maybe it's because I feel that I am better at managing the club
than Arsene Wenger.
Are there any players you must buy?
No.
Usually I try to sign a different player I have not bought before.
I prefer having unfamiliar faces in my squad.
How long does a game last for you?
I
have a slow computer so I actually tend to lose interest very
fast.
What would you like to see in CM4?
I
would like to see more changes and features in CM4. That’s for
sure. The 2D-Match Engine feature is not a bad idea.
Where
does CM Addict fit into the scene?
I
suppose CM Addict is as good as TheGaffer if not worse. Can’t
you tell? I am trying to be very humble.
Which other sites do you have to visit regularly?
I
visit all the sites in my CM Scene section daily. One of my
favourite sites is Project CM. They have got a good staff and
helpful webmasters.
Is there too much of the same on the scene, or do we have
a vibrant community?
Actually,
most of the CM sites offer the same thing. That’s why CM Addict
tries to be a bit different by improving the Players Sections
with screenshots. 'Guess This' section is another lame idea
from me as well as the CM Scene Survivor. If any CM site wants
to survive now, they will have to produce new ideas every time.
Is
the official site any good?
The
site suffers from a lack of CM content but they have the best
forums on the scene. The forums are extremely helpful and questions
you post will receive lots of replies. That is the only site
to get real CM4 information from.
Would the scene be better if there was one huge site that
we all fed into, rather than loads of smaller ones?
All
the smaller sites merging together to form a better and bigger
website is the alternative. That will mean that content flows
in like tap water. But, from my experience, I have noticed that
if a webmaster joins another site on the scene he will not update
the site as often as he does when he has a site of his own.
How long do you expect to keep CM Addict going for?
As
long as I have money to pay my internet and electricity bills,
CM Addict shall never fall. Hopefully.
I
have to ask what's the weather like where you are? It's
quite nice in Manchester today. Not too sunny, but warm...
It's
night here and the sky is very black. I can’t actually see a
thing. That
was a long interview and I might not have any time left to update
my site (that's the idea woohoohoohoohoohaahaahaahaa - ed, clearing
his throat, presumably) . Anyway, look luck to CM Stuff and
looking forward to see you grow into a huge site on the scene.
At
that moment, Horngjiunn started crying like a baby and begged
me to leave him alone. I acquiesed, but I wasn't happy about
it. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to visit
CM
Addict right away, and if you don't do anything else, vote
for ver Stuff on Scene Survivor. Right?
If
you are a CM webmaster and would like to be grilled on pretty
much everything, then let me know at the usual
address and I'll make sure I'm in your neck of the woods
soon.
